The Breakfast Smoothie

As discussed in previous posts I am a big fan of smoothie bags. This involves mixing up a zip lock bag of chopped fruit a veggies that you can throw into your blender in the morning and run out the door. Or in my case I blend it first thing and then carry it round the house getting the kids organised etc. before we leave.

There are tonnes of recipes online or you can play around with different fruit and veg and see what works for you. This is the one I make in a large batch and store in my freezer and the combination gives a perfect balance of vitamins, minerals, carbs, fats and protein.

Per bag:

  • A large handful of mixed baby kale and spinach
  • 2 strawberries chopped
  • 4 raspberries
  • 2 blackberries
  • 1/3 large banana
  • 1 heaped tsp of chopped fresh ginger

I tightly pack all of the above in a ziplock bag, roll and stack in the freezer. I usually make 30-32 bags.

In the morning I pop the contents of the bag into the bullet blender with

  • a cup of almond milk
  • 100g greek yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp. milled chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp. of milled flaxseeds
  • 1 tbsp. of vanilla rice protein.

This smoothie really packs a punch, it fills me up until lunch.

Its packed full of vitamins such as A, B, C, E, K and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc and phosphorus amongst others.
